Still Making History: Dr. Kenneth Richmond, MD

Still Making History: Dr. Kenneth Richmond, MD, MSOL, FAPA

Long before he became a physician, a medical director, and a leader in psychiatric care, Dr. Kenneth Richmond understood one powerful truth: healing requires both strength and compassion.

Drawn to a life of service early in his career, Dr. Richmond chose a path that united medicine with a commitment to others. He pursued psychiatry with a focus on caring for people during their most vulnerable moments—those navigating mental illness, emotional distress, and substance use disorders. His approach has always centered on meeting individuals where they are and helping them rediscover stability, dignity, and hope.

That commitment grew through his service in the United States Air Force, where he provided psychiatric care to service members and their families in complex and fast-paced environments. His time in uniform strengthened his belief that mental wellness is essential to personal resilience, strong communities, and effective leadership. It also shaped his calm, steady approach to care—grounded in teamwork, discipline, and compassion.

Today, as Medical Director at MiraVista Behavioral Health Center, Dr. Richmond brings that same mission to every aspect of his work. He leads clinical teams with a focus on quality, access, and respect for the whole person, ensuring that patients receive care that is both clinically excellent and deeply human. He is also committed to reducing stigma and helping individuals and families see mental health treatment as a vital step toward healing and recovery.

The impact of that work is best expressed by those whose lives he has touched:

“I will forever be grateful to you for my transformation from a people-pleasing, anxious, and depressed individual to one who guards her boundaries and positivity with pride. I am forever indebted to you.”

For Dr. Richmond, psychiatry is more than a profession—it is a calling rooted in service and advocacy. His career reflects a belief that mental health care should be available, understood, and embraced as part of overall wellness.

This Black History Month, we honor Dr. Kenneth Richmond not only for what he has accomplished, but for what he continues to build: a legacy of service, leadership, and commitment to psychiatric wellness.

Still making history. Still changing lives.
