As the school year gets underway, changes in a child or adolescent’s mental health may become more visible. Families, teachers, pediatricians, counselors and other trusted adults may begin to notice increased anxiety, depression, changes in behavior, difficulty functioning or other signs that a young person needs additional support.
When inpatient psychiatric care is the appropriate next step, The Vistas are here to help children, adolescents, families, schools, providers and community partners across New England find a clear path to care.
TaraVista Behavioral Health Center in Devens offers one of the region’s few dedicated inpatient psychiatric programs for children ages 5–12. Our specialized team understands the unique emotional, developmental and clinical needs of younger children and provides care in a safe, structured and supportive environment.
For adolescents ages 13–17, both TaraVista in Devens and MiraVista Behavioral Health Center in Holyoke offer dedicated inpatient units and specialized programming. Having adolescent services available at two hospitals helps provide reliable access to care for young people and families across the region.
Referrals are welcome from schools, pediatricians, families, hospital emergency departments, crisis teams, community programs and youth-serving organizations. Our teams work closely with referral sources and families to understand each young person’s needs and help determine the most appropriate next step.
Direct admission may also be available. When clinically appropriate, eligible children and adolescents may be admitted to inpatient care without first going to a hospital emergency department. This can create a smoother and more direct experience for a young person and their family during an already difficult time.
When a child or adolescent needs a higher level of support, finding the right care is urgent. The Vistas are ready to help families and those who serve young people better understand their options and connect with appropriate care.
