When a Young Person Needs Support. What Families & Caregivers Can Expect from Inpatient Treatment Services at Miravista Behavioral Health Center

When a young person is struggling with their mental health, it can be difficult to know where to turn. Inpatient treatment provides a safe, structured environment where young people can stabilize, develop coping skills, and begin their journey toward healing.

For many families and caregivers, making the decision to seek inpatient care is not easy. It often comes after a great deal of worry, uncertainty, and concern. Our goal is to provide support, treatment, and hope during what can be a challenging time.

The first day is focused on helping a young person settle in safely and comfortably. They will meet members of their treatment team, complete assessments, and begin becoming familiar with their surroundings and daily routine. We understand that arriving at a hospital can feel overwhelming, so our staff at every level work to make the process as welcoming and supportive as possible.

Treatment is provided by a multidisciplinary team of professionals working together to support each young person’s needs. Depending on the individual’s treatment plan, that team may include psychiatrists, nurses, mental health technicians, therapists, social workers, teachers, recreational staff, and other clinical professionals. Each member of the team plays an important role in helping young people build skills, develop resilience, and move toward recovery.

Structure plays an important role in treatment. Each day includes a balance of therapeutic groups, individual support, education, recreation, meals, and opportunities to practice healthy coping skills. Consistent routines help young people build confidence, develop healthy habits, and focus on their treatment goals. While every treatment plan is individualized, the days are designed to provide both support and opportunities for growth.

Creating a safe environment is one of the most important things we do. Certain items may be restricted because they could present a safety risk. While these guidelines may feel unfamiliar at first, they help us maintain a therapeutic environment where all patients can focus on healing. Our team will explain what items are permitted and answer any questions families and caregivers may have. You may also visit our website to learn more.

Families and caregivers play an important role in a young person’s recovery. Throughout treatment, there may be opportunities to participate in family meetings, treatment planning discussions, and discharge planning. We value the perspectives of those who know and care about the young person best and believe that collaboration is an important part of successful treatment.

Communication is an important part of the treatment process. Families and caregivers will have opportunities to connect with members of the treatment team, participate in family meetings, and receive updates about progress, goals, and discharge planning. While privacy laws help protect a young person’s confidentiality, our team works hard to ensure caregivers remain informed and involved whenever appropriate. Numbers to each unit are available on our website at miravistabhc.care or terravista.care.

Discharge planning begins early. Our team works closely with families, caregivers, schools, and community providers to help ensure ongoing support after a young person leaves the hospital. The goal is to create a plan that promotes continued stability, safety, and success in the community. This may include outpatient therapy, community services, school supports, medication management, or other resources based on individual needs.

If you’re feeling worried, overwhelmed, or uncertain, you’re not alone. Seeking help for a young person takes courage. Whether you are a parent, grandparent, guardian, aunt, uncle, foster parent, sibling, or another trusted caregiver, your support matters. We know how difficult it can be to see someone you care about struggling. We are honored by the trust that families and caregivers place in us, and we are committed to providing compassionate, evidence-based care every step of the way. Healing is a journey, and you don’t have to navigate it alone.
