New Chapters. New Opportunities. The Same Commitment to Making a Difference.

Meet Mira: Meet John Raymer

New Chapters. New Opportunities. The Same Commitment to Making a Difference.

At MiraVista, we believe that as our hospital grows, the people who work here should have opportunities to grow, too.

Professional growth looks different for everyone. Sometimes it means learning a new skill, pursuing an advanced degree, exploring a different role, or discovering a career path that once seemed out of reach. We want our team members to know that their ambitions matter and that we value the experience, talents, and aspirations they bring to our hospital.

Today, we’re pleased to introduce you to John Raymer, whose journey from police officer to Mental Health Counselor to group therapist is a wonderful example of what can happen when personal determination meets professional opportunity.

After retiring from the police force in 2021, John knew that although one chapter of his career had ended, his commitment to helping others had not. Throughout his years in law enforcement, serving people and responding to individuals during difficult moments had been an important part of his work. He wanted to continue making a difference, but in a new way.

That desire led him back to college to pursue psychology, with a concentration in mental health, and eventually to MiraVista, where he began working as a Mental Health Counselor (MHC).

For two years, John worked directly with patients, offering support, encouragement, and compassion during some of the most challenging periods of their lives. At the same time, he continued his education, balancing the responsibilities of his position with his academic goals.

In 2025, John earned his master’s degree, an accomplishment that brought him one step closer to a dream he had been working toward: becoming a group therapist.

Today, that dream has become a reality, right here at MiraVista.

Reflecting on his experience, John shares, “Working as an MHC for two years was an incredibly rewarding experience that I will never forget. I had the privilege of supporting so many patients during difficult times in their lives, and the opportunity to make a meaningful difference in their journeys was truly fulfilling.”

John’s transition into his new role represents more than a change in job title. It is the continuation of a career built around helping others, along with the opportunity to use his education, professional experience, and understanding of people in a new and meaningful way.

“After graduating, my dream was to become a group therapist, and I am incredibly grateful that MiraVista has given me the opportunity to make that dream a reality. As I begin this exciting new chapter in my life, I look forward to continuing to support others, help them recognize their strengths, and encourage them on their journeys toward recovery and personal growth.”

John is also quick to recognize the people who helped him along the way.

“I want to sincerely thank everyone who has supported, encouraged, and believed in me throughout this journey. Your support has meant so much to me, and I am excited to see what this next chapter brings.”

John’s story is a reminder that professional growth doesn’t always follow a straight line, and that it’s never too late to pursue something meaningful.

At MiraVista, we are proud to be part of his journey. As we continue to expand our services and respond to the needs of our community, we also want to create opportunities for the people who make our work possible.

Because growing as a hospital isn’t just about adding programs, services, or positions. It’s also about investing in people, recognizing their potential, and helping them take the next step in their careers.

Congratulations, John! We’re grateful you chose MiraVista for this chapter of your career, and we’re excited to see all that lies ahead.
